Your expertise needed!

The Vancouver Island Chapter of the A&WMA is always seeking environmental professionals,  consultants, academics, students, industry experts, environmental advocacy groups, or government staff who can present their favorite topics at our luncheons.  Email Markus if you or a colleague are available to do this.  Speakers get a complimentary lunch!

Board members wanted

The Vancouver Island Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association is actively seeking Board Members to help us to continue to steer the Chapter in positive directions over the next two years.  This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in becoming involved in a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional organization that enhances knowledge and expertise by providing a neutral forum for information exchange, professional development, networking opportunities, public education, and outreach.   The A&WMA also promotes global environmental responsibility and increases the effectiveness of organizations to make critical decisions that benefit society.  Contact Markus if you are interested in this opportunity!

This month's A&WMA Vancouver Island Chapter's Luncheon   Presentation

Win-Win Emission Reductions

When: Tuesday, September 28, 2010,  11:30 - 13:10

Where: Cedar Hill Golf Course, 1400 Derby Road, Victoria, B.C.

Who:  Todd Litman,
Victoria Transport Policy Institute (www.vtpi.org).

RSVPEmail Markus by 3 P.M. on the Friday before the luncheon to AWMAinformation@gmail.com.

Win-Win Transportation Solutions are cost-effective, technically feasible market reforms that solve transportation problems by improving mobility options and removing market distortions that cause excessive motor vehicle travel. They provide many economic, social and environmental benefits. If implemented to the degree economically justified, Win-Win Solutions could achieve the transport component of Kyoto emission reduction targets while helping to address problems such as traffic congestion, accidents and inadequate mobility for non-drivers, and supporting economic development. This presentation discusses the Win-Win concept and describes various Win-Win strategies.

Todd Litman is founder and executive director of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute, an independent research organization dedicated to developing innovative solutions to transport problems. His work helps expand the range of impacts and options considered in transportation decision-making, improve evaluation methods, and make specialized technical concepts accessible to a larger audience. His research is used worldwide in transport planning and policy analysis.  More details at  www.vtpi.org/documents/resume.pdf
