PNWIS 2016 is excited to announce that Alice Edwards, the deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, will be featured as the keynote speaker. 


Alice Edwards lives and works in Juneau and began serving as the Deputy Commissioner for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in March 2015.  She has a bachelor’s in chemistry and biology from the University of Oregon, and recently finished a Master’s in Public Administration at the University of Alaska Southeast.  Ms. Edwards began working at DEC when she first moved from Oregon to Juneau in 1989 with her husband, Sean.  Twenty six years later, she remains at DEC.  During that time, Ms. Edwards worked in Alaska’s air quality program, eventually serving as Division Director from 2008-2015.  Her work focused on air quality monitoring and community air quality planning.  Over the years, she developed regulations and air quality control plans for carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and regional haze.  She has been a member or leader in a number of multi-agency groups, including the Western States Air Resources Council, Western Regional Air Partnership, Alaska Wildland Fire Coordinating Group, and the Anchorage and Fairbanks metropolitan planning organizations.
