Air Quality Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3) (In-Training)

The Air Quality Engineer position is responsible for issuing PSD permits, a critical element of preventing deterioration of air quality in Washington State from industrial point sources and is a key element of Priority 2 in the AQP strategic plan. In addition, this position provides a variety of engineering analysis in support of other program priorities.
We are looking for engineers who possess excellent people skills, the ability to analyze complex processes and situations and make professional judgments as to the accuracy of plans and reports and the ability to communicate the assessment with a diverse audience.

The mission of the Air Quality Program (AQP) is to protect, preserve, and enhance the air quality of Washington to safeguard public health and the environment and support high quality of life.
Some of the key work activities at the Environmental Engineer 3 level are:
*Provides draft and final review of permit applications for complex projects involving Prevention of Significant Deterioration permitting, including engineering designs, specifications, and plans for air pollution processes and control equipment.
*Provides technical assistance to the regulated community in accordance with RCW 70.94.035.
- Information on air pollution laws, rules, compliance methods, and technologies.
- Information on air pollution prevention methods and technologies, and prevention of accidental releases.
- Assistance in obtaining permits and developing emission reduction plans.
- Information on the health and environmental effects of the air pollution.
*At the Environmental Engineer 3 level, as a licensed professional engineer and in accordance with RCW 70.94.152, provides draft and final review of permit applications for minor source notice of construction approvals upon request from AQP regional offices.
*Provides engineering expertise for AQP rule making, permitting, and quantifying and controlling air pollution in Washington.
*Provides technical assistance to the public, other agencies, and other AQP sections.
This recruitment will remain open until filled. The initial screening will be January 18, 2017.
